A Letter to the Freshman

Here’s a small letter of advice from a senior wishing she would’ve done more throughout high school. Coming in to high school I tried to fit in with the older kids just like everyone does. That was my first mistake. Don’t be scared to be friends with the older kids but don’t go out of your comfort zone for them to like you. You’ll grow up quick enough in these next four years, don’t rush it. I remember wanting to be like the juniors and seniors getting to drive around and hanging out with friends even on school nights. I blinked my eyes and was suddenly pulling long work hours after school along with cheer practice and juggling a small social life with friends. Freshman year is where you start to see where you fit in, what lunch table you want to sit at, and what sports you may want to try. Get involved in the clubs such as Science, History, Varsity B, and SADD. For the girls, don’t ever let a guy tell you how to live your life. This will ruin the beginning of your high school career and you’ll regret it later. Though you might not choose certain sports your freshman year, it’s never too late to try them later. Our senior year my friend Abby decided to quit cheering during basketball season and try swimming, this was one of the best decisions of her life. Although she loved cheering, she’s really loving being on the swim team. I also am going to try something new for my last year here. It is never too late to try something new in high school but don’t be scared to come in freshman year and try out everything! Best of luck to the freshman now, incoming freshman, and all the other high school students.

Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights
This Friday the Beavers (5-1) will be taking on the Wildcats (0-6) at their home field. The odds are definitely in our favor this week but you never know what can happen. Speaking from a cheerleaders point of view we cannot wait to go cheer on our boys! I’d like to introduce Michael Clendenning for a few comments on the team. He stated “ I think we’ll do really great this week. The boys have been working hard this week during practice and they’re looking good. We’re starting to play more as a family than ever! I can’t wait to see everyone supporting this Friday!” I’d also like a few words from a member of the drumline Sunni Sacconi. Sunni says “ I and the rest of the band are super excited to play during the game this Friday! The drumline has accomplished a lot this year. With the help of Joel, Mr. Kidd, and Mr. Newman we’ve become amazing this year. I’d like to thank the student section for enjoying us so much during the Liverpool game!”

Thank You To All

Thank you!

This blog post is a huge “thank you” to everyone who has walked into my life academically and athletically. By saying this I would like to thank my coaches, teachers, and friends who have pushed me to become a better person in all these events. Thank you to the teachers who have helped me through the years. Thank you Mrs. Ash for pushing me to take the jump into my first AP course and thank you Mrs. Jones for being such an amazing teacher through that first course. Thank you to the friends who cried with me and pulled “all-nighters” throughout those hard courses.
Thank you to the coaches who have made me fall in love with my sports. Thank you for pushing me to want to better myself as much as I possibly could. Thank you Kristen for being the most amazing cheer coach I could’ve asked for in my four years. Thank you for not only being such a great coach to us but for also being a great friend and even mothering us when we needed it. Thank you Mr. Carr for making me not completely hate my life when we had to run. Thank you for picking me up when I thought I couldn’t take another step and pushing me to run more than I thought would ever be able to. Thank you for always being able to take a joke and helping me make fun of dad (Coach Ward) at practices.
Finally, thank you to my closest friend. Thank you Sammi, for being there for me always. I will never forget the memories we have shared since 8th grade and I’m sure we won’t stop making them any time soon. Thank you for staying up with me and crying with me while I wrote essays or finished other assignments for our AP classes. Thank you for always being there when guys were dumb. Lastly, thank you for always being there to read over my essays until they’re perfect, especially my awful college ones! Thank you to everyone to who has pushed me through these fours years. I’ll forever be grateful for all of those who have walked into my life and brought out the best in me.

Behind The Scenes Of Cheerleading

Behind The Scenes Of Cheerleading

When you think of a cheerleader you think of Friday nights and pep rallies. Little do you know there’s a lot more work put into cheerleading here at Beaver Local than you’d ever imagined. To begin, we start practicing in June. We have a cheer “camp” around the beginning of July and it goes for two days. Each day is about seven hours long with a half hour lunch break. At this camp, we learn our main cheer, dance, and a few other little cheers and dances for fun.

The real “fun” begins in August. In the beginning of August, we have our usual 6:00 am practices and our tag day at Walmart for a fundraiser. Towards the middle of August, we have a yard sale for fundraising also. Then we start prepping for the pep rally and we teach the boys a dance. This past year we had practice every day of the week at 7:30 am so the boys would really know the dance. The pep rally was a success! The end of August starts football season! This is when we make our run through signs and start decorating the locker room every Friday. By October were ready for pink everything to support breast cancer. We raise money all month and take it to our Pink Ribbon cheer competition to donate.

I have cheered since I was five and it’s been the best experience of my life. It’s taught me to stay positive in upsetting situations and keep a smile. It has also taught me leadership skills and I’m so grateful to cheer for this school! It’s ❌otter week, let’s kick butt! Go, Beavers!
