Job Shadowing: My Experience

For Mrs Hendricks class, our last senior project was to go job shadowing. We had two different days to job shadow whoever we wanted. We could shadow the same person twice or two different people. I chose to shadow Mrs Mulholland both days. She is a third grade teacher in the Beaver Local Elementary.

My experience shadowing her was amazing. I was not sure if I wanted to become an Early Childhood teacher or not but after this experience I am pretty sure that this is what I would like to do for the rest of my life. I got to spend the day with the kids and helping them prep for their state testing. I even got to experience them taking their math state test. It was nice to see what a day in the life of a third grade teacher was like because Mrs Mulholland made sure I got the full experience.

Although we had to do a lot of work dealing with our job shadowing experience, I highly recommend doing it. If you are not sure what you want to do with your life or what you want to be when you are older, job shadowing can really help figure out what you like and what you don’t like.

Perfect hair color

Have out ever wondered if a hair color would look good on you or not? Well, there’s a chart to help! Pale skin tones should try cool toned colors; light brown, platinum blonde, light blonde, cool blue, lavender etc.

However  dark or warm skin tones should choose warm colors. Including; dark brown, black, red, dark purple, dirty blonde etc.

Understanding your Students

Students have many problems with teachers. Why should we put up with rude teachers when we’re already made to go to school? A majority of students don’t like rude teachers. We want to be treated as an equal. Just because an adult is ‘in charge of a classroom’ doesn’t mean they need to be mean to anyone younger than them.

Most teachers don’t respect that students can know what they want at a young age which can lead to subtle bullying. So who’s actually going to speak up? The student probably wouldn’t want to say anything because they don’t want to be a bother. Meaning this could go on for awhile before anyone realizes it.

Being in a classroom with people that you don’t like could affect your work ethic. Grades dropping and attitude change about wanting to go to school. No student should have to go through this. By having teachers that understand all kids are not the same. Could make schools a better place for everyone.

Battle of the Classes

Battle of the classes is the day where freshman through seniors get to compete against each other to see what class is the most superior. Each grade participates in series of events the show off their ability. At the end of all the events the points are added up and the winner is chosen. This years battle of the classes took place last Thursday on April 26th. And the results were the seniors came is first, sophomores came in second, juniors came in third, and freshman came in fourth.

Events:

Tennis shoe relay-

4 students from each grade take off their shoes and place them in the center of the gym. Then each of the students return to their designated area in the gym. Then each of the line up and one at a time sprint to the center of the circle and retrieve their shoes, put them on, tie them, and sprint back to their teammates and tag them in.

The team consists of 1 male and 5 females. The man stands at one end of the gym while each one of the girls sprint to that end and place a female clothing item on him then sprint back and tag their other teammate in. Once the man is fully dressed he runs to the other end of the gym the first to finish wins.

3 Legged race-

This event consists of two pairs of two from each team. The two pairs from each team stand at one end of the gym and each pair has a rope tied around one of their legs tying them together. Then the first pair runs down and back to the other end of the gym then once they are finished the next pair goes. The first team to finish wins.

Tug O’ war-

But while doing all of this they can’t break hands.

This event consists of 4 people from each team. One person from each team stands in the center of the gym. While each person stands at the other end with a balloon. Then each person one at a time runs to the person in the center with their ballon and tries to pop it together . But each person must pop it in a certain way. The first person must pop it by standing up, the second must do it by having the center person sitting down. The third person must then pop it by having the center person laying in the ground.

Summer is Fast Approaching

This school year is coming to an end and even though this crazy Ohio weather is not warm or sunny yet, summer is about to be upon us. Summer is the time to be lazy and sleep in all day but if you are ever bored one summer day, I have five fun ideas for what you can do to make your day more interesting.

Idea #1: Go swimming

Summer time is the perfect time to go swimming. It is hot and taking a quick dip in a pool is a great way to cool off from the hot summer sun. If you do not have your own pool, you can always try to go to a friends house or some parks like Thompson Park has a pool that you can swim at for only a few dollars.

Idea #2: Drive around with your windows down and music playing

Getting in the car and driving around with all your windows down and listening to music is always really nice and calming.

Idea #3: Go for a walk at the park

Going to the park is always a good way to get exercise It is also a good way to see different things and just enjoy your day. Plus, you can always take your dog and have fun walking them.

Idea #4: Go on an adventure

You can grab a couple friends or whoever you want and go out and find different things to do. For example, you can ride around at night listening to music and enjoying the night time and looking at the stars.

Idea #5: Go on a picnic

Grab your significant other, friend, or anyone you want and get some food, drinks, and a blanket and go to a park and enjoy the day.

Need a Job? Subway is looking for great new employees!

Hello Beaver Local students! I am a manger at the Calcutta Subway located next to Giant Eagle. Our store and the Walmart Subway are in dire need of employees! I would like to share with you some information about Subway and to explain that it is a wonderful job for high-school or college students!

  1. Customer service

Most of you have probably attended a Subway before at least once in you life. You know that a lot of communicating is involved.  We go down the line asking all sorts of different questions, and we like to talk to our customers on a personal level because most of them are regulars. You have to be friendly, cooperative and not afraid to talk loud.

  1.  We are a team

All of Subways workers are close. We act as a team and get the list/shift done together. At Subway you do not only make subs, salads or wraps. You have a list to follow each shift, with things that need done. Such as dishes, sweeping, filling sauce bottles, stocking things, filling the chip rack, cleaning the restrooms and other tasks. Sometimes, when we have busy nights it is hard to get the list done on your own. You should be able to work with your co worker as a team to help complete that shifts tasks.

  1.  Positive attitudes

If you come into work with a bad attitude you cause your co workers to be in a bad attitude. Subway does get busy and sometimes can be stressful when your trying to get your list done. If you and your co worker have a bad attitude that shift will not go easy. The more you stress the more you will get behind. Always come into Subway feeling positive, if you don’t, fake it. For me Subway can take away my stress for a few hours because i can focus on something else.

  1. Schedules

Subway does their best to work around any sports, school or other work schedules. This is a perfect job if you are in Highschool or college. The unit and district manager will work around the schedule you provide them. We also have a request off book, you write in the day you need off and at least one word explaining why you need that day off. You can also write “am only”, “pm only” or “after 4” if you can either work in the morning or afternoon that day.

  1. call offs

You can not all off multiple times without a valid excuse. Death of a family member and sickness ( with a dr excuse ) are excused. You can’t just call off because you don’t feel like coming into work that day. Once a week you will have a day that you are “on call” this means if someone calls off that day you will be called into work. You can not say no to a on call. You can risk getting fired if you do not come in. If you are sick or there has been a death it will be excused but you must contact the unit manager and tell him/her so they know not to call you in.

Subway is a great job! Come into the store and grab a paper application or go online!

The 2018 spring blood drive is this Wednesday, March 28. The blood drive takes place all day and there are still spots open for the afternoon, so sign up quick before the spots get full! Save a life and sign up for the blood drive!

The Phantom of The Opera

The Beaver Local Masquers club recently put on the production The Phantom of The Opera. The Phantom of The Opera is classic and very well know musical. The story takes place in a 19th century opera house. And is centered around a love triangle between the three main characters. The production took place in the Beaver Local High School auditorium on March 16th, 17th, and 18th. The production took lots of time and hard work from everyone involved.
